Our History

Marcel is a family-owned Philippine company engaged in the production and export of seaweed, carrageenan, and functional systems. From a humble export business of seashells and other sea products, the company has ventured into trading of dried seaweeds and eventually into the production and export of carrageenan and hydrocolloid blends. Having been in the business for over 50 years, the company has grown to around 400 employees and now owns four (4) manufacturing facilities located all over the Philippines.

Marcel started exporting dried seaweeds

Zamboanga Plant, the first carrageenan production facility started operations in Zamboanga, Philippines

1977
2006

Canlubang Plant was inaugurated in Laguna, Philippines

Maasin Plant was acquired by Marcel and began operating in Zamboanga, Philippines

2011
2018

Cebu Plant was acquired from CP Kelco located in Sibonga, Cebu, Philippines

Marcel celebrated its 50th year in the industry
