It has been used as food, medicine, fertilizer, and as raw material in the production of industrial phycocolloids such as Carrageenan, Agar, and Alginate. The Philippines is one of the world’s top seaweed producing countries, making seaweed farming as one of the most productive forms of livelihood, benefiting thousands of coastal inhabitants in the country. Marcel, as one of the biggest exporter of seaweed in the Philippines, is actively involved in and supports local seaweed farming activities. Aside from the carrageenan-bearing seaweed, Eucheuma cottonii and Eucheuma spinosum, we also export Gracilaria and Sargassum.
